Introduction
This assignment is intended to help students to understand, identify, and apply basic design elements and principles into their design layout. Students will explore the effective combinations of types and images to support a design concept. Aspects of graphic design that are covered including: steps-by-steps graphic design process, guidelines for creating and organizing design layouts solutions by applying the elements of design (line, shape, texture, space, size, value, and color), the principles of design (balance, rhythm, emphasis, and unity), to capture the readers attention.


Tasks:

Students are required to design and develop a graphic art poster based on the theme given. Throughout the assignment students will go through the process of developing or creating an artwork and demonstrate the understanding of Basic Graphic Design fundamental.

Students need to show and record the process and progress of the artwork from the beginning until the end, from concept, ideation, and sketches, to the making of the artwork. Students need to apply and implement graphic design principles and elements onto artwork.


Assignment: Design Elements & Principles.
Students are requires to do a research about Graphic Design elements and principles and finding examples for each research finding. You are also required to exchanging critical comments and supporting ideas to improve each other’s work.

What you need to do is research and find the examples of the used of design elements and principles on any graphic design artworks (ex: Brochure, poster, packaging, animation, etc) and describe about the design elements or principles on the artworks.

  • Identify the design elements and principles on graphic design artworks.
  • Able to describe how the use of design elements and principles contribute to the visual communication.
  • Apply the basic principles of graphic design to communicate a message visually to an audience.
  • Develop self-analytical judgment by exchanging critical and supporting ideas in a peer group setting.


Your effort will be graded based on the accuracy of your research outcomes and how you describe it.

Project: Graphic Art Poster. Design Concept And Ideation.
Students will design a graphic art poster based on the theme of your choice. You need to develop and show the design process starting from scratch until it finishes. You need to demonstrate the understanding of graphic design principles and elements by implementing it on your design.

Students need to do a research on the style or design concept that is appropriate to the artwork and also study on the process and skills required to complete the artwork, and also experiment with your creativity with a various ideas and design trend/styles. Based on the finding, you need to come up with the sketches of your ideas. Your artwork should incorporate illustration, photography and typography. 



Upon completion of task 2, students need to show:
  • The theme, ideations, design concept brainstorming of your design
  • Visual research or references
  • And sketches


This task will be grade based on:
  • The quality and originality of your ideas
  • Ideas improvements
  •  Design progress

Final Project: Design Development - Final Artwork
During this stage, students will start to develop the design based on the finalized idea from sketches. They need to improvise, modify and finalize the design for the final artwork. Students also need to refine the design and experiment with various compositions of design principles and elements until it come up good for the final output.


The Design Should Demonstrate Of Your:
  •  Understanding of basic graphic design elements and principles, and how to             implement it on your design.
  •  Use your creativity to enhance the visual appearance of the design.
  •  Improvise the ideas and skills from time to time for a better design outcome.
  •  Identify the problems and solutions of the design skills that may occur during the     progress of the artwork.

The final design should be print and execute appropriately in a good quality design standard. They need to submit the weekly design progress report as an evident of the originality and efforts that you have put in on the project.


Your Submission Should Be:
  •      The final artworks should be in A2.
  •      Design progress report/journal
  •      The artworks and report/journal in pdf.
